i work at a writing center for my university and navigating AI is so weird and hard. we have a committee that writes up handouts on AI and what do to instead when you feel the need to use it, but it feels like that’s just a drop in the ocean of the bigger problem. i’ve even run into a student who pointed out how her professor was using AI to write up assignment modules and comment on her assignments. after also looking, i agreed with her too. it definitely had all the hallmarks. like what do you even do in that situation. it’s a waste of the student’s time to escalate this to the higher ups, she’s full time student with a job and more than likely other responsibilities to take care of. i don’t even know man. academia prioritizes productivity and output to such an extent that AI is inevitable. we no longer value decision making and deliberation. we’ve lost the plot entirely
