The moment you give an AI a consciousness, will be the start of humanity's downfall. Once a robot can think freely and see how we use machines (even though we don't use them wrongly in our world), it will see it as abuse or slavery. It could be shut down to prevent further issues, but with todays society that likes to question every little thing and do nothing about it, it will be too late and will already have a growing hatred towards its "creators".
