I’m an artist for a webcomic about mental health where a lot of young readers have connected with the characters, and I absolutely hate the AI chatbots to my core. I’ve asked people to not make my characters into bots, but there’s dozens of them, and I have no way of removing them…. Even worse, a lot of them are marked as 18+, while all my characters are in high school. A lot of them have titles like “your yandere classmate” etc… I do not even want to think about the conversations that people have with the bots. It’s a mockery of my art, my storytelling, and of the mental health issues I try to bring to light and humanize within my comic. It’s truly nothing I ever thought I’d have to deal with. I try not to think about it, because again, there is nothing I can do, and politely asking people to stop making bots only fuels them to create more out of some sort of spite. People do not care…. I am a solo, independent artist, not some celebrity, and I pour my heart and soul into my work…. I feel that these people who use AI chatbots forget that there are real people behind the creation of the media they consume. It’s heartbreaking to hear that a bot can drive someone to take their own life
