Well since automation produces social externalities, it seems reasonable to introduce some sort of tax on it so that the process of replacing humans is smoother (slower). Then this funds can be used by governments to acquire a portfolio of shares in given companies, so that the inevitable growth of those who get automation right may produce stable returns and then instead of giving people just cash in form of something like a ubi, people can be assigned a share of earnings from that said portfolio. Sounds kind pf socialistic but it's a clear solution on how to functionally make people own assets in compensation for their workhours becoming cheaper. And assuming these can be assigned to children in a similar way UAE assigned oil revenues to all citizens since birth, it might kinda fix the problem of "what jobs will be left for our kids when they grow up", as by the time they grow up they should already have a reasonable portfolio of assets. This just might push the demand high enough to encourage some of those businesses to cater to a wider audience.
Too bad a system like that will probably never work
