So I work in tech and feel pretty close to this issue, and wanted to say my piece. There are some use cases for AI today. Particularly in my industry, it can be used as a predictive tool for things like fraud detection, future inventory needs, etc. There are some indications it might be useful in medicine. However, with the way that it works today, it is not suitable for creative works. This means art, music, writing, etc. It is a predictive model, basically spell check on crack. Calling it "intelligence", artificial or otherwise, feels like a slight. Maybe someday the models will grow to the point where they can work like a human brain, but we're still a long way away from this. Hearing some of those comments about how AI will replace artists reminds me of the same hype around AI replacing programmers. So far, all the code I've seen generated by AI has been barely functional, with no regard to your existing codebase. There's been a few cases where someone was able to coax it into making something neat (one guy made a very simple flight sim) but only buy handholding it via prompting to the point where he knew the code he was going to use and just needed the AI to write it correctly. I feel like it's the same with art. I bet a good artist might be able to prompt an AI enough to get a decent image, but only because they already understand things (I dunno what kinds of things, I'm not a very good artisit). Just wanted to get those thoughts out into the world. Also, I don't think your poisoned images will do much in the grand scheme of things, but I love that you're doing it.
