Waymo prices are what Uber and Lyft were priced at in the beginning. I'm all for taking back cities from cars, but there are two major issues with self-driving cars. They will turn the US into even more of a surveillance state. They will eliminate the automotive market as only one self-driving car is needed for six or so families. I'm not against the car market being eliminated, but the pace will happen quickly once they reach Level 5. Lawmakers will be incentivized by self-driving car's surveillance benefits. Automakers will be incentivized by the higher profits of car-as-a-service models. Both will work in unison to make owning a car ridiculously expensive.
