I don't believe most people want to stagnate either. People like feeling productive and useful. AI and robotics taking jobs could also open up much more time to pursue interests like carpentry, landscaping, arts & crafts, whatever else that really can't be replicated well by automated systems without becoming stale and lifeless. I can also imagine a future where these fields of expertise explode in popularity, where buildings and streets come alive with more handmade products, color, artistic design, etc. People get more into trading and helping each other, and where money is used more for things like medical care and what-not, things that are harder to barter for. This is the kind of wealth and quality of life I see that has potential to become deeply valued again.
