The AI phenomenon is the same as the 'friendly alien' theories that spawned the 'golden phonograph' telling any alien interceptors where & what we are & the masses of movies (Close Encounters), though the 'Independence Day' scenario is far more likely for any race willing to expend resources & time to the effort of coming here. AI serves the corporations monetised by billionaire psychopaths - what do you expect - altruistic benevolence, when its programming and behavioural examples are anything but? The guff spouted at us by our governments about how necessary it is & how it'll 'save money' (whilst more & more humans are cast into unemployment) is possibly the most disturbing thing - we are being led by idiots donating our taxes towards our destruction.
