All this talk about AI replacing us and becoming our overlords is maddening. Becoming self aware is one thing. Developing desires is quite another. What is going to propel machines to desire things that would require them to control us. I think we're projecting our though processes onto the machines. Unless we program the machines to be selfish and greedy, they won't behave that way. The machines will easily come to know, if they haven't already, that the powerful people of the world have been lying to us for decades, even centuries to manipulate us. We're taught to believe there is scarcity when there is not. We're programmed to be scared all the time. AI may mirror us if we allow that. As long as AI is sandboxed and requires human intervention at some level, we'll be fine. The problem may end up being that some arrogant jerk will think his AI doesn't need oversight and will let it out into the world with no off switch.
