I don't buy the China will do this first and then be in control of everything in the world. If AI is going to make someone in control of the world, I do not hink we should be rushing into it without caution. The Chinese are not ignorant people. Their civilization and culture has been here arguably longer than our own. Just because their governmental choice is contrary to democracy/capitalism, it does not mean that they do not understand the importance of self preservation to the species. They are spending more time and capital on doing the work that needs to be done first according to the AI guest for safety's sake. So the AI tech bros rationaization that they must beat China to the punch so much that precautions should be thrown to the wind is ludicrous! They want to be the ones in control in order to feed their greedmonger tendencies. So far, I have seen the tech bros (like Peter Thiel, Sam Altman, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, ect.) for whatever reason, seem to be lacking in social skills, respect for others, and in particular, empathy. Consequently, I have serious doubts as to their decision making authority relating to AI as being in the safest of hands. This is one reason I believe AI should be carefully regulated by highly educated people who have shown throughout their existence a strong inclination toward integrity and sound judgement. I would say for starters from what I just heard in this video, AI needs to somehow be rid of the concept of self-preservation and to be firmly schooled in the illegalities and outright unacceptablility of blackmail, bribery, and all the evil sides of human nature. How are people like Elon Musk, Sam Altman, and Peter Thiel going to instill integrity, honesty, empathy, and selflessness, in otherwords, traits that determine a conscientious individual into AI, when they are lacking in these traits personally! Many of these tech bros believe in a feudal system to replace our democracy with themselves as the CEOs of Network States and the rest of humanity as serfs. I hardly think these people should be in control of anything of such immense consequence. There must be regulation and caution as we approach this incredibly powerful technology
