This is disingenuous or naive. A.I. won’t replace developers/engineers it will reduce the number that’s needed by a large margin. It’s neither of the extremes but it will and is transforming the industry. Don’t believe the hype on either side but be prepared for a drastic reduction in the industry. I’m a senior software architect and I’ve been using these A.I. tools for a few years now, staying on top of trends, using these latest techniques etc… And it’s true that you MUST have someone drive these tools that knows what they’re doing it’s also true that one individual can do 10x the amount of work. Non developers don’t usually realize that much of the software industry is just various forms of CRUD operations. That’s the sort of tasks that A.I. handles very well. It’s why Lovable is taking off. For more complex tasks you need to sit with A.I. more hands on. But these are exception cases. But I’m not exaggerating when I say that I work on at least 5 different projects each day at the same time. Also, this idea that it churns out crap code is quickly being proven wrong especially when you use skills, plugins and agent teams. You’re basically converting your own brain into a digital map for A.I. to replicate. And it works. Think of the difference between someone who’s trying to one shot a codebase. Those will likely fail. Now imagine someone who’s spent 10+ years creating a solid architecture, design patterns and other standards and approaches every project the same way with enough wiggle room for unique features. That’s what leading A.I. developers are doing. They’re recreating their years of experience as skills and A.I. agents and using context engineering to spawn teams of agents to design, write, architect and code review all at the same time using their decades of experience as the context. And you would likely be shocked how just using agent teams shoots the output quality up by orders of magnitude. My advice? Get as knowledgeable as you can on these tools as quickly as you can. That and learn as much as you can about software architecture. Don’t sit back and expect the A.I. bubble to save you. Make yourself stand out with these tools because the industry is changing fast.
