I am finding a disconnect on the second part in most accounts. People are saying that ai can’t do what humans do because it isn’t human, and then using the same breath to accuse it of things that only a human can do.
If we think of ai like a person, then it is learning to replicate art styles in much the same way that humans do and accusing it of theft is ridiculous because the images it used to train were visible in public for anybody to see.
If we think of it as not a person then it is a tool which people are using to create artworks which incorporate elements of public ally available work just as people have done for years, so it makes no sense to say that is theft.
The only way the art theft accusation works is to say that the ai is both a person who can steal ideas but is not allowed to do that because they are not a person.
