It's a medium and most people who use the tool use it to a very high level of depth beyond just prompting. The people proficient in it's use are running the open sourced models that have dozens and dozens of tools beyond just prompting which have an extremely high skill ceiling, and the people producing the best outputs are mastering it's use in compound with their own already developed skills in digital art. You also completely avoided the controversy about how the Patreon and larger anti ai movement has been funded and megaphoned by a notoriously anti artist group backed by Disney, Viacom, and other media companies with a history of restricting copywrite laws for artists under the guise of doing them a favor. Art is art and none of you can stop people from making it.
