Seems all the hype around AI is about producing code. As Dave says (3:16) "20% of my time at best coding and another 80% debugging and validating that code."
Thus for increase productivity, there should be more focus on applying AI to improving efficiency of the debugging and validating that code. Good integration of AI with tooling will offer more significant benefits than using AI along side existing tooling. A key thing to remember is AI is not perfect, it does hallucinate, or fails to understand the full context of a problem; particularly new problems, or a problem in a new context.
IMO: AI is just another tool that gets used in the tool shop, it will have its place and uses. For physical tools, when batteries offered portability, it changed some tool designs. AI will have a similar effect to some existing tools. AI will also enable some new tools to be created.
