It simply calculates possibilities in advance. A chess game by any mean isn't considered AI. And advanced chess computers/super computers only employ one out of many aspects of intelligence - planning (limited to the one of a narrow, specific, action). Self-awareness, learning, reasoning etc. - All those thing no chess script nor computer has - would be crucial for a singularity machine.
