"It's still early days for AI" -- you keep conflating the new models of AI with AI in general with astounding ignorance. You of all people should be better educated. These aren't the early days, the early days where when the first computer powered on. They're not the late days -- just the latest days.
It needs to be put in perspective that generative, predictive models simply aren't the stepping stone to AGI. Of course they'll improve through iteration just like every other AI, but AGI is firmly outside the scope of their potential.
