My family has been in the trucking industry all over, from owner operators and company drivers, to mechanics, to transport company owners... The trucking industry is in shambles with or without driverless trucks. The companies that want the deliveries have squeezed the transport companies, who have to squeeze the drivers, who have to just stop driving to be able to feed their families, because it ends up costing them money to work. No one is incentivized to reverse that trend. It's better to automate the work than to have drivers try to get into the industry on false promises and work themselves into debt with the hope that they'll eventually make money (they won't.)
Automated trucks are a good thing for truckers because it keeps people from burying themselves in debt to make someone else richer...
The mechanics in my family don't care, they've been having to learn electronics and hating it anyway 🤣
