LLMs have plateaued. They aren't so advanced the companies operating them can't control them. They're disappointingly mundane. The excitement was the discovery that scaling transformers up massively improved performance, but the assumption that transformers would keep exponentially improving was false. Generative AI peaked around gpt 4 and every model since then is minor tweaking to get better performance. No one's hiding a superior technology. It's plateaued.
