Uhh, somebody (a person) also smashed into the back of a motorcycle. There was the failure. I don’t trust visual aides to make my driving decisions. And, sometimes I drive into a fog bank and can’t see a thing. Neither could an AI backed camera. I know that, so why would I trust the AI to keep driving at speed in bad conditions like fog, rain, snow, night (yeah even at night). If you trust an AI and a camera to make safe decisions at all times, YOU (the driver) are not thinking properly about what is really going on. And, who the heck drives at 80 mph at night? I long ago started slowing down under less than optimal visual conditions. And not just because I’m a senior. I vividly recall skiing with my daughter ,who was about 10 yrs old, under marginal (flat light) conditions when I was about 40 years old. She could still see perfectly well to ski at speed, and I had to slow WTF DOWN! Lesson learned, and I thought my vision was perfectly fine at the age of 40. Even though my vision was 20/20, but the light gathering power had diminished just enough to completely screw with my perceptions of white on white contours in the snow in front of me. Bright daylight, mid-day, are the best conditions. Other than that, slow down a little, give yourself more margin to prevent accidents. Don’t trust a machine to do your driving for you, at least, not yet.
