Maybe I'm undereducated on the topic (I follow it closely but my formal education is in biology, not machine learning) but I don't fear super intelligent AI as much as I fear currently existing AI being used for "evil". It's like a child running around with scissors - the scissors themselves are not a particularly powerful weapon, but in the hands of a toddler they can still lead to chaos and, unlikely but possibly, injury and death.
