I like observing art that was made in turbulent times. I think about Saturn Devouring His Son by Goya, and others of his paintings at that time. The raw energy of making a gruesome artwork during a painful period is something that’s very hard to recreate through a machine. You can tell AI what pain is and what a painting made by a pained person looks like, but it doesn’t know what living with constant death from war and sickness actually feels like and it can’t have shaky hands and it tries to fight off a rage fit while painting.
