I try to research what the benefits of these massive data centers for the average American is. To date I could not find solid answers. There are no significant jobs opportunities associated with data centers. The vast majority of cited benefits are high level projections for the future with little evidence. To date non of the AI services return any profits. Risk remain: We have not seen any good planning on how to power all these data centers on grids that are already working at capacity. There are not guarantees that data centers will not lead to increases of electrical power cost for the consumer. Environmental consideration and concerns have so far been widely ignored.
With all these open questions my vote is also for a ban on building data centers.
