What is not being talked about is why students feel the need the use AI. Here are a few reason why I think this is the case: I truly don't believe its because they are lazy, I think its because education now is simply harder than it used to be. Algebra used to be the highest level of math in high school, and now most schools require a calc class. Same with anything in sciences, and even to a degree history. Education is just harder in general, and we need more tools to achieve it at the highest possible level. There is a universal experience of most TA's not being native English speakers and are extremely hard to understand. Students now rely on AI to to be a teacher because universities are terrified of finally admitting instructors have to speak fluent and clear English. It doesn't matter how smart or well versed in your field you are, if you cant speak English at an American university, you should not be able to instruct material. 120 credit hours as a requirement to graduate is insane. University's will cover this as a general education requirement and point to diversifying student experiences, but all we know its because 120 credit hours makes them a lot of money. Most STEM degrees are only 60 credit hours of engineering, and the other 60 are BS classes that no one cares about and don't have time to do, so they Copy+Paste AI for time management. My final reason is simple, professors are insane and think a PhD makes them god. I have had several good professors, but at least 90% think they sit above a student trying to learn material. If you cant condense the class syllabus into 2 pages, its because you are power tripping and making up shit as you go. Education should not be a power structure, it should be a teacher and student exploring material and both walking away with a new perspective or understanding of a topic. Professors these days believe they have the only correct perspective, and refute any new research thrown their way because its now how they would have done it. I TA'd for 5 courses when I was getting my MA in CS, the whole system is a joke and I eventually stepped away when I saw the cracks had nothing to do with AI or students.
