Why are we pretending we don't understand what AI hallucination is? It's a pattern recognition and repitition machine and it's repeating a pattern. It doesn't secretly "know" that the case law doesn't exist it has no concept of whether case law needs to link to a real thing because it isn't a thinking machine trained on logic. You told it "give me text that looks like a case file" and it complied. Yeah if you prompt it with what sources it's to draw from you can get factual information from a LLM but it can just as easily become mecha hitler.
