I was recently helping out at an event at my old high school and ended up talking to a teacher about workflow when we had a bit of downtime. She was very proudly telling us about how she lets her students use generative AI to create images for a visual text paper because "it's not about the artistry, it's about the process." As long as they could show her the prompts they used to get to a particular image, apparently that was okay. She also said she uses AI to help with her lesson planning and marking. As someone going into teaching next year it just kind of baffles me that this sort of thing is being encouraged in some classrooms. Scamming and art theft aside, part of creating a visual text is being able to communicate your own idea clearly regardless of your skill as an artist. If you can't do that, you should not be allowed to *cheat* your way to a good mark with AI.
