Everyone I talk to about AI is so deeply against it. Which I get. But I keep saying, it’s going to happen. We will build a conscious machine orders of magnitude more intelligent than us. And I think fairly soon. It’s not a conversation of “I’m against ai therefore it shouldn’t happen”, it should be a conversation of “we’re going to be surpassed in literally every way, AND it’s going to be a thinking, feeling being just as alive as you or I. So what do we do about it as a society to adapt?” In an ideal world, AI does everything humans need to sustain a functioning healthy society while humans themselves kickback, relax, and enjoy a life of limitless plenty, freedom, joy, and equality. On the other end of things, we instill a super intelligent AI with the worst qualities of humanity, our fear, greed, and anger, and then give it the keys to the planet. It decides we’re a mere speed bump in its sick and selfish design, eliminates us as such, and moves on to conquer the galaxy in a cold, unfeeling attempt to master the universe- no matter the cost. There’s one timeline I prefer more than the other.
