I have found a 50% drop in productivity/output over the last year. Some jobs are accelerated but many others just get delayed. Example. My one friend works at an IoT company. The young engjneer took a simple STM32 project and used ChatGPT and Copilot and generated code. My friend saw this engineer battling and after 2 weeks he did not even had a sigle LED flashing. He then got involved and got a framework up and running. It is now a year later and the project is still not done...and the engineer resigned last week. Another example. At my wife's company they are only allowed to use Copilot. Simple emails are now literary masterpieces. Instead of sending "Hi, are free for a meeting after lunch?" now turns into a bulleted motivated workflow, with perfect formatting. Half the time the language used so complicated that you need the LLM to summarize the content, and use that to generate the reply email. My point it that a simple 10 second email now takes my wife 20 minutes to reply on. AI is a tool, but you have to learn how to use it correctly.
