In 2023 the US had 22,000,000 millionares, and if you make that a global number it adds millions more. 22+ million people is a large enough market to keep most medium to high end businesses going, and the rest can make due selling cheap foreign-made goods with a huge mark-up to the remaining peasantry, who will slowly experience loss of wages and opportunities due to automation. New York City's population is shrinking, it's housing is unaffordable, but nobody really cares because there are over 300,000 millionares in the city (and thousands more 500k+ earners) to keep the cash flowing. The peasants will still find employment but it'll usually be a step down, ie: a white collar worker getting laid off and having to work as a waiter or landscaper or another low-skill (but hard working) service job.
Trades people will be temporarily exempted from the automation effect as they can't be replaced yet, but without strong unions their wages may fall as well.
