A sane government would implement a UBI *BEFORE* allowing companies to lay off workers en-masse to replace them with AI. We are FAR TOO LATE for government intervention in this process and instead have a government obsessed with looting as much of the treasury as possible while de-regulating everything related to AI. The austerity and cuts to basic social safety programs make this issue all the more egregious.
This new era will have inequality far beyond the nightmare of the Great Depression. Too many Americans have been brainwashed into worshipping the hyper-wealthy even though they are the villains of the planet. I doubt our cowed populace has it in them to actually stand up and demand a rational distribution of wealth.
