Ms Hao really does need to read Dune, because the movie, though using the name, has very little to do with the philosophical ideas in the books. It is worth reading through most of the series as well, because the historical underpinnings are explained to make the whole thing more understandable. I believe that the first book is incomplete, because it just could not get much longer because the binding costs would have made it impossible to sell at prevailing prices of the day.
