There are a lot of good points presented here. Although I'm sure it won't happen in my lifetime, I'd like to see US cities reshaped in a more European style in which the preponderance of goods and services you want are within walking distance, and convenient public transport is usually readily available for most further destinations. Such an infrastructure redesign would still be completely compatible with self driving cars.
