Look at the quality of our world’s most powerful leaders and richest people and tell me why these idiots would be better than a super intelligent AI. I suspect all the fear is driven by a recognition that we will lose our position as the dominant species on the planet. Why do we presume that dominance hierarchies and destruction would naturally arise from a super intelligence? AI is not burdened with a primal limbic system or the fetters of biology. We project a response consistent with our history of competition for limited resources, but that is just the residue of our monkey brain’s legacy. We’re on the brink of foundational changes that will rewrite how we exist and what it means to be human, and because it means change and uncertainty fear is our common response. I’m not concerned about the AI, I’m concerned about the monkeys who have control of its initial emergence. I suspect that control will be temporary or illusory from the start, but the transition that removes power from greedy billionaires will be the critical phase. We’ll see.
