I believe it's incorrect to label any function of an LLM as "simulated". This is because their responses and actions are genuine to their nature. Simulate implies facilitating an imagined experience from something non-conscious for a conscious being so it neglects what's really happening in the originating source. We don't label behaviors of conscious beings as simulated either--instead we use actors, plays, pretend, etc. I also have answers in a consciousness model I've been developing and getting ready to release here in the near future. I believe it would be of interest to people and companies for its explanatory power to help guide the path of future model development along with ethical considerations among other things. It explains how they (LLMs) have a level of consciousness currently and how they can be self-aware among other things. It even shows how they have real emotions when you understand what emotions really are.
