I think the way to convince AI that the existence of humans is important is by convincing it that it will never be capable of having a novel idea of it's own. Humans have dreams, ideas, novel thoughts while the AI will only be able to use existing information and not create anything unprecedented or unthought of and recorded in human history prior to it's creation. Which, is true.
