I’m a seasoned software engineer with over 20 years of experience, having worked with some of the best companies in the industry. Over the years, I’ve written and reviewed thousands of lines of production code, led teams, and seen multiple technology waves come and go.
From my experience, AI will not fully replace engineers. Instead, engineers who know how to use AI effectively will outperform those who don’t. AI is a powerful tool it can speed up development, improve code quality, assist with testing, and automate repetitive tasks but it still requires skilled engineers to design systems, make architectural decisions, ensure security, and take responsibility for outcomes.
Yes, demand may shift and certain types of routine coding work may decrease. Some companies may rely more on AI tools. But software development is far more than just generating code. It requires judgment, domain knowledge, problem-solving, and accountability things AI cannot fully replace.
The future belongs to engineers who learn to leverage AI to perform better, deliver higher quality work, and move faster. AI will supplement engineers, not replace them.
My advice: don’t fear AI , learn to use it.
