It is a significantly false premise that AI companies spout all the time: *they* built the AI, they deserve to reap the rewards. They never acknowledge that they are operating on top of Civilization OS, that their success is dependent of hundreds of years of relatively stable markets and industry inventiveness. AI, as a science, has been around since Turing and WWII. The idea that these AI companies came up with AI (even in its current form) out of whole cloth is garbage. I studied neural networks in the *nineties* and the only thing we knew then was that there wouldn't be computers powerful enough to utilize the models for decades. Ta da. The *ahem* *gentleman* who are founding and running these companies didn't build anything. They got enough capital to build the machines. They owe everyone and need to stop short-sighted mentality that they owe society, universities and thinkers that went before them.
