AI engineer here! Chinese models and American models both uses mixture of expert(MOE), there architecture is not different. The reason Chinese models are cheaper is because they are open source. Whereas American frontier models are closed source, meaning there algorithms, model weights and source code are not available to public for free. Chinese companies make them available for free so anyone can download for free and build on top of Chinese models. That’s the only reason they are cheaper. You are not paying DeepSeek or Moonshot to use there models. Ironically Chinese companies are very transparent about there tech.
