I believe in the WBM suit that settled with Suno, the Suno lawyers successfully argued that Suno used songs to not replicate them, music & lyrics, but to simply study patterns. If someone was to analyze hit songs, definite patterns emerge, in terms of melodic structure, harmony, rhythms, etc. So they weren't stealing a Billy Joel song, just analyzing it's structure. I wouldn't be surprise if this new suit from the publishers sees the same result. There is the question of how the songs they analyzed were collected. The piracy argument might have some legs. Did they simply scrap them from the net using Bit Torrent or other piracy software? I have no idea, but I would be surprised if the AI music generators actually paid a license fee to use all these songs for "analysis".
The idea that music industry professionals are joining Suno, seems bizarre. Is someone actually going to build careers for imaginary artists, like Broken Rust & Xanai Monet, promoting them like they would a real artists. It's absurd, but if it makes a boat load of money, that's all that matters.
