From my perspective I've always believed that AI, which is really just pattern recognition, is a tool to execute simple tasks, because of its inability to actually think critically, problem solve or innovate. The narrative that AI was taking over was kind of true but only for jobs that were repetitive, and a lot of layoffs were caused because of factors like outsourcing. Overall, the hype was a lot more than the actual product.
