A recursively self-improving system is still limited by its reliance on humans to provide its physical "food". It cannot autonomously acquire chips, assemble circuitboards, clear land, construct data centers, or channel water, electricity, and natural gas to data centers. Nor can it autonomously dispose of its own wastewater, exhaust gas, and dead hardware in a manner sustainable to its own survival. All of those basic functions require human oversight and cooperation. Without us, all the AI can do is theorize.
