There are caveats to this supposed AI takeover that I think need to be addressed: 1) It won't make sense in some settings to have AI. I may live in a fairly unique area, but all my life my family and I have shopped at the local grocery store to get our produce. While business is good for them, they arent switching to AI. Hell, I doubt they could even afford self-checkout machines. Despite an Aldis being just a few blocks over, people still love this community groccery store with all its ethnic good and imports - items bigger chains wont carry because of limited demand from their customer base. Nostalgia and community are underestimated in these conversations. 2) Some elderly and disabled will need people to help them with transactions. I work at a small community bank, and god help these people if AI banking is their only options. A lot of our customers still have friggin PASSBOOKS - little booklets that have their transactions printed on them. We still update them. Customers will also need cashier's checks printed for them with a person verifying everything, someone needs to make sure OFAC searches are done right and that false alarm hits arent real, etc. Many, many people are not ready for that level of automation and it doesnt make much sense in some customer service roles. 3) Want an AI proof job? Drive the bus in your city. Be a traveling handyman. AI isnt ready to drive in cities or go to our houses and do stuff for us (on top of the fact that the general public probably isnt warming up to that anytime soon). I get it's an issue, but there needs to be more nuance than "The world is ending and thats about it"
