Once the genie is out of the bottle the result is inevitable. It's happened frequently in the past, a new transformational technology is invented and vast numbers of jobs are replaced or eliminated. Farming was mechanised, the printing press, car manufacturing was robotised, typesetters were lost to computer printing, same with typing pools, dock workers replaced by container shipping, mass factory work replaced by mechanised production, etc, etc, etc. Ultimately this has resulted in erosion of living standards of all but the upper classes because the jobs lost to new tech are never replaced by equal paying jobs elsewhere, displaced workers can only find much lower paid menial work. What will happen eventually when all work is done by automation or robots is a perturbing prospect.
