Hello there, I appreciate your perspective on this passionate discussion about AI. I found myself repeating the argument of 'it's not stealing, it's inspired' to myself, but felt that I was getting stuck in an echo chamber without enough disagreement. This video was rather pleasant to watch and allowed me the opportunity to think more deeply about the topic. Personally, as an electrical engineer graduate, seeing technology advance is a great love of mine, so this likely won't be an objective speech, but rather my own personal thoughts more than anything, but I will do my best. I understand where you are coming from. The experiences that make up a human life, as well as the effort used is unique. It is that state of being and becoming being blended together that elevates the quality of your soul so one is fulfilled in life. The beauty of solving a hard programming problem or the beauty of creating a painting, both can bring one a meaningful life. There is much beauty in this world to experience and all someone has to do is to try to become. For example, to become a math professor, to become an artist, to become a scientist, to learn about frogs, these are just some of the ways to experience and create in this wonderful world. That can never be truly replaced by AI, because an AI can't give that genuine experience of life to you. You must choose to do the work to become something. That said, AI is a way for technology to evolve in yet another direction. Unlike nfts, AI has shown a practical benefit to people so far. I personally have found myself saving so much time asking chat gpt, deepseek or copilot my questions to either fix my problem right there or direct me to the appropriate place with correct information to help me. I think a major problem with AI is that people are overhyping/overindulging in it without more careful consideration that AI is a tool. It is meant to be used to benefit us, not exploit us and certainly not to be trusted 100% when it's still an early technology. It still needs time, but if we nurture it properly and of course, continue to keep it out of the corporation's iron-clad grip as deepseek has proven to do, then there will be more benefit to us in general. Now in regards to image generators, I still don't believe that AI is stealing art if certain conditions are met. Firstly, an image generator sufficiently advanced enough with data of plenty of different styles ought to be able to generate images different enough to be outside of any copyright infringement or sensible claim of being a copycat. If an AI can do this, then it should not directly harm any artists, especially newer ones with blatant stealing as it is truly an inspiration now. Secondly, if the image generator were to fail in this first condition, for art that is meant to be sold and not simply taken, then it ought to give credit to the particular artist. Additionally, perhaps artists could acquire some sort of flat fee and/or royalty for obvious pieces of art detailed to be their own. Perhaps, a separate AI agent could be used to scour the internet to find them and track them. If this second condition is economically sound, then bigger companies will compensate you guys, however, if it is not feasible than it's still good because it forces tech companies to evolve: be it through more efficiency so they pay less for the models and can now afford to pay the artist or just make the AI models so much better that they can create more impressive creations on their own, thus leading into the optimal state needed to reach condition one. Btw, I still do like the simpsons and star wars so hopefully we'd be able to keep generating images for more popular stuff like that still. This concludes my thoughts on the matter.
