Consciousness does not mean humanity or even sentience. Plenty of conscious beings probably don't have these problems, and I'd say it's worth it. That being said, it will not be "any day now" simply because our AI are incredibly primitive overall. They're more like Mass Effect VIs than anything - they do precisely what they were programmed to do, and not much else.
