Something that should always be mentioned: even if autonomous cars worked 100%, they would do absolutely nothing to solve transit or traffic, in fact, they would make it worse, because a large amount of _empty_ vehicles would be circulating in addition to all the ones we currently use to move around. Transportation is not and has never been a control problem, it's a geometric problem: math says that if each person hauls a 6-meter-long hunk of metal and plastic with them, even at perfect efficiency there is no way for a motorway to carry all your daily commuters without becoming jammed. Which funnily enough is something a computer and engineering company ought to know, but after all they don't sell transit solutions, they sell cars.
