Whole premise is false. Artificial intelligence doesn't exist and almost certainly cannot exist. Intelligence has zero to do with what is going on in the AI field today, developing language models and neural networks. These things are fundamentally divorced from that which gives rise to intelligence. They simply take the end product of human intelligence, language, and regurgitate it. They have no way to acquire knowledge, only capable of using the creme skimmed off the top of already acquired knowledge. They have no more chance of becoming conscious than a book does. Intelligence is fundamentally linked to having an organic body. Despite the musings of many non-experts it is not at all possible nor even conceivable that you can replace something like a neuron with synthetic material. The substrate DOES matter.
