I may not be a very good artist with a non-desirable art style that AI would probably never use, but I still think AI art is ethically unacceptable…. I have a big family, and none of them are artists like me, so they have no idea what is going on in the art world, whenever I voice my concerns about AI art, they don't brush it off, but instead say similar things like, "Oh, Ai is gonna take jobs then take over the world." And there is nothing wrong with saying that as a joke, but to me, AI art could (and may one day) replace me... my sister wanted me to make fantasy designs for her book, and I said I'd be happy to, so I did, but after a while, she stopped asking me to make them, and I wondered why, it was because she found an Ai art generator to make reference photos for her book... I wasn't angry at her, but I was at Ai, and the worst part was, that Ai's art was better than mine, a lot better. I asked her why she used AI when she knew that it was unethical because I often voice my concerns about the rapid growth of AI, her answer was, "Well, it's easy to type in a few keywords or find art references and photos, I don't have to pay an artist to draw it for me either." ......I got upset at her, she was willing to pay one of my other sisters to do her nails, but not me for making references, I understand that my style might not have been what she was looking for, but then why did she ask me in the first place? Before AI, she had no means of making it so she asked me to do it. After AI, she did have the means and didn't ask me... She literally replaced me, with AI art... and I can't even imagine what it's like for bigtime artists with such a recognizable art style like Sam, Dan Mora, or Mika Pikazo for their art to be "replaced" or "Re-branded" as not theirs anymore... My father is a videographer, and with the release of Sora AI... he has now opted to speak with me on issues with AI... because it's happening to him too... AI art will almost always be better than someone who has been doing art for as long as me, I've only been on digital for 4 years, and traditional for 11, but still, AI is better, because, it has taken, no, STOLEN art from thousands, maybe millions of artists who might I add, spend years, even their life studying and refining their art, the AI begins researching and studying it pixel by pixel, and rearranging it, re-saturating it and adding or subtracting certain elements from other artists and making it better. AI art literally thrives off other people's lives, it feeds on the time and practice that the artists spend their lives on, and can replicate it within minutes even seconds. The technology is scary and amazing at the same time though, I'm not completely against the concept of AI, in fact, I think it could be a rather useful tool for artists (if used properly). But it is not being used as a tool, but as a replacement, and people are taking advantage of that, they don't care, and at some point, we have to accept that, it's sad that people will mock you for being “useless” or “a waste of time”, but the best thing we can do is try our best, voice our concerns, and keep working. At 10:00, I paused and read the email... that is... the audacity of them to passively mock you, and then ask to work on a project with them, AFTER using your art for their generator... it's honestly very sad... that they don't care about what other people may be experiencing because of AI art, for me, it affected my spirit, I almost didn't want to draw anymore because why? Why should I? Why would anyone BUY my art when they could just get something BETTER for FREE? Without having to pay an ACTUAL artist for their art... it affected my family... the situation with my sister is better... but what she said... hurt... and it caused a rift between us, though it's fine and it worked out, she still uses AI, and has never asked me about my art since... I don't blame her though. Sigh... I know that this is really long, but AI art has done nothing for me except hurt and mock me, I had high hopes for AI, but not for the people who use it, or created it... BUT! I'm not going to mope about it! Because AI will never fully replace people... hopefully... (JK). I'm being serious though, I don't mind it as much as I used to, because I've just learned how to go with it, besides, machines have been taking jobs for years, first horses were replaced by wagons, plows, and cars, then actually people who can relate to artists probably the most, scribes, with the invention of the printing press, they were no longer needed to create dozens if not hundreds of copies, instead, the press did it for them (although someone still had to write the story/headline). Okay... I’m trying to be a bit more optimistic, things with my sister are going great now! I'm not (that) scared of AI art anymore, and I have high hopes for the future!
