I hate when people who generate images say "The AI takes inspiration from images" No. It doesn't. The AI isn't capable of being inspired or creative. It's being told what to look for through it's massive library of images and pieces something together. I get why they say these things, they want to sound like they're creative or insist that there is creativity in using an AI or in some cases they just want to take artists down a peg. Which- Artists already have enough issues with self confidence, folks tracing their stuff, folks reposting and getting credit for art they didn't make. There's no further pegs. Secondly, only a fool is going to believe that there's creativity in AI generated images. Shadversity spent hours typing up endless excuses and reasoning that are easily debunked. Same with his videos. It's not the same as someone being inspired by something, at all. Some things you can tell were inspired by something but have a lot of originality to them- others you can't tell at all. Metroid was inspired by Alien and Aliens- because those movies inspired a lot of things. But is blatant about it? No. But also, calling a character Ridley is a clear nod to the damned creator of Alien. There's creative decisions going on while making art of something. The AI is not being creative, it isn't sentient, it's not capable of being inspired or making anything. Till Data from Star Trek walks into a room and paints a canvas? AI is not inspired by anything. This is like saying "I made this burger" as you unwrap the McDonalds wrapper from it and hand it to your friend. Just because you asked for some things, doesn't make it creative. Being creative is as you said, it's complex. In my experience it's complex, some things happen casually and flow out, some come from painful experiences whether it be physical, mental or happy, unforgettable moments in your life. Maybe it's inspired by how someone acts or how you reacted to an event. Can it be something directly inspired from art? Sure can, and in a lot of cases I don't think folks would know that. And the folks that say 'it's not stealing' are objectively wrong as the creators of the AI tools- ADMITTED IT IN COURT. They said they did not get permission to use any image, they don't own any rights to the images and they can't afford to pay people for it. Meaning- IT, IS, STOLEN, by their own admission. Then they as you said, try to say you're scared of technology. Artists aren't scared of technology, we're scared of people abusing our work or you know- future generations not learning how to be creative and instead generating everything and art becoming lost. It's so sad to see people try to excuse this stuff. I've seen so many folks online say they're being creative and that AI is just a tool. A pencil is a tool, you put work in, work comes out whether it's writing or drawing. AI is a printer that does all the work
