Just 2 eyes and 2 ears. Plus vestibular 6 axis motion sensing
Ergo, a self driving vehicle should only need cameras and microphones. Maybe low cost sonar. Plus sufficient cpu for the image recognition and ai logic.
Cameras can be redundant plus extend beyond human limits, ie ir and uv wavelengths for fog, rain, snow, etc.
