I've commissioned artists for complicated ocs and maybe I was just lucky, but the artists were good at communicating and the results were better than I imagined. Their prices were fair and I think most artists prices are fair. I've also played with ai and wouldn't ever use the results for anything other than inspiration for an original piece. They're just soulless compared to a commissioned work.
Ai should be a tool and not a replacement for real effort. Generating a random idea to springboard off of, as a way to get out of a rut or think outside the box or as a placeholder to remind you what you want to do and replace it later with your own work should be how it's used instead of as a finished work.
Ai isn't original. It's an amalgamation of other's work, and people who call themselves ai artists are simply idiots.
